Role details

The Continuing Care Services Program at the Mackay Community Health Centre is seeking applications for a Mental Health and Other Drugs Service New Graduate Occupational Therapist to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

  • The Allied Health Mental Health Network and Other Drugs Service (MHAODS) New Graduate Program is a two-year (24 month) graduate training program specifically for allied health new graduates in Occupational Therapy, Social Work, and Psychology with less than two years of post-qualifying experience. There are three main components of the MHAODS New Graduate Program: work-based experiential learning, formalised education and training, plus supervision and profession-specific support.
  • The Allied Health MHAODS New Graduate Program requires the participant to rotate through four clinical settings over the two-year program. Participation in both supervision, and the education and training program is required to support the achievement of clinical competency and capability.
  • Working and learning with other Allied Health Graduates in dynamic multidisciplinary teams, the graduate Occupational Therapist will provide professional-level discipline specific and also mental health and/or Alcohol and Other Drugs Services (AODS) clinical services commensurate with their level of experience and training, and with a level of supervision that decreases with increasing experience. Services will be delivered within evidence-based practice, recovery and harm minimization frameworks, in which the graduate Occupational Therapist works collaboratively with consumers, their families/carers and other stakeholders as appropriate to formulate and implement goals that optimize psychosocial outcomes and functioning, as well as facilitating recovery from mental illness and AODS use.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to provide mental health case-management services to clients with a chronic and/or severe mental illness. Case-management will include assessment, intervention and treatment as well as group work as required, in accordance with professional standards and legislation (Mental Health Act 2016; State and National plans and polices).

About the Team

The Mental Health and AOD Service is comprised of eight clinical teams across the MHHS. The Mental Health Service is responsible for the provision of comprehensive, specialised mental health assessment and treatment services across the age-spectrum for people with severe and complex mental health problems. Our services aim to be consumer focused and recovery oriented and are provided in a variety of settings including community, an acute inpatient unit, hospitals and emergency departments.
