Role details

The Nursing Services at the Bowen Hospital is seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse (General Medicine) to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity

The Clinical Nurse (CN) provides nursing services within the health service settings; and is responsible for a portfolio with a focus on clinical care/leadership, management, education and/or research. The activities are predominantly clinical in nature but also provide support to a Nurse Grade 7 or above in management activities. The CN provides advanced level clinical skills to ensure patient-focused evidence-based nursing care, plans and coordinates the clinical management of patient/client care and provides leadership and support to other nursing staff.

About the Team

The Bowen hospital is a 20-bed plus 9 chairs (renal and oncology) acute hospital which offers several specialty inpatient and outpatient services and a 24/7 emergency department. The refurbished Emergency Department (ED) provides assessment and management of care to a wide variety of conditions from acute trauma management to acute care of medical conditions across all age groups from paediatrics to geriatrics. Bowen ED is a level two facility under the current Clinical Services capability Framework. Patients requiring ongoing care in a tertiary facility are stabilised and transferred.

Bowen Hospital utilises a multi – disciplinary approach modelled on current best practice principles to provide positive outcomes for patients and families.   

The community health outpatient services are integrated to provide services by a multi-disciplinary team which include physiotherapy, speech pathology, occupational therapy, social work, nurse navigation, indigenous health, pharmacy, midwifery services and visiting speciality and telehealth.  

Clinical Nurses have many opportunities to work across multiple areas within the service including renal, oncology, emergency, medical imaging, child health, discharge planning and rural generalist inpatient areas. The Bowen Health Service covers the Bowen area including North to Guthalungra and South to Eden Lassie Creek and inland to the Collinsville range.
