Your opportunity
To provide high-quality clinical services and contribute to medical leadership within a supportive rural team environment, while benefiting from close professional links to Mackay.
This role offers the opportunity to practice broad rural medicine within a well-connected service, supporting continuity of care across both Sarina and the wider Makay HHS network.
About the Sarina Hospital
Sarina Hospital is located within the township of Sarina, approximately 30 minutes-drive south of Mackay. This close proximity provides a unique balance of rural practice with access to the resources, specialist services and lifestyle benefits of a regional centre, including those available at Mackay Base Hospital.
Sarina offers an attractive coastal and rural lifestyle, with access to beaches, hinterland landscapes and a relaxed community environment, while remaining well connected to Mackay for schooling, shopping, transport links and broader professional networks. This proximity also supports strong clinical integration, with regular workforce movement and collaboration between Sarina and Mackay services.
Sarina Hospital delivers a range of admitted and non-admitted services including inpatient care, a 24-hour Emergency Department, outpatient clinics and community health services. The facility is newly built and fully utilises electronic medical records, supporting contemporary models of care and efficient clinical workflows. The hospital services a diverse and growing community, extending east to coastal localities, south to St Lawrence and west into the surrounding hinterland.
Inpatient services include a mix of acute and sub-acute patients, while the Emergency Department manages a broad range of presentations, with approximately 9,000 presentations annually. The medical workforce comprises Senior Medical Officers supported by junior medical staff, predominantly at PGY2 and PGY3 level. Medical students are placed at the facility throughout the year, and Sarina Hospital is accredited with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine for core Generalist Training.
