The role of the Transition Officer is to provide assistance and ongoing support to young people to re-engage in education or training and/or secure and sustain employment, with an overarching goal of reducing reoffending by young people in the youth justice system.

- Drivers' license: it is a mandatory requirement for the occupant of this position to hold an unrestricted “C” Class driver's licence. Officers are required to drive government vehicles as a part of their day-to-day work.
- This role is designated as Regulated employment as the position provides support services to children and young people and therefore will require a valid Blue Card to be linked with the organisation prior to starting. - While the position is based in Townsville, travel within the region for site visits and to other regional/departmental offices may be required in this role. This may include overnight stays.
As Transition Officer, you will specifically:
- Assist in preparing young people to participate and engage in education, training and employment programs as required; and support the development of their interpersonal and self-regulation skills.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team to plan, deliver and refer young people to education, training, and employment.
- Assist in the design and facilitation of group based programs designed to address the criminogenic needs of young people with particular focus on tailoring the program responsiveness to the needs of the cohort.
- Work effectively within a statutory and non-statutory environment to provide support to young people during education, vocational training, work experience and employment.
- Collect and maintain accurate data and client records in accordance with relevant statutory, legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
- Identify, liaise, and maintain strong working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and community partners.
- Contribute to a departmental culture that ensures sensitive and effective communication with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds as well as an appreciation of cultural protocols and an awareness of the impacts of historical policies and practices.
- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
