• Prison and Youth Detention Health Service (PYDHS) is rapidly growing division within the West Moreton Health region, delivering primary health care services to detained, remanded and sentenced prisoners and young people across eight facilities (six Correctional Centres and two Youth Detention Centres).

• PYDHS has varied operating hours at each centre. PYDHS is a seven-day service with either 24/7 roster or two-shift roster (AM and PM), with centres varying between 8 hour, 9.5 hour, and 12 hour rotating shifts.

• The Nurse Manager works Monday to Friday during business hours.

About the role

This role is responsible for strengthening service delivery through clear governance structures, optimised use of resources and the coordinated deployment of specialist skillsets across PYDHS. The Nurse Manager will lead the integration of health promotion and preventative health approaches within custodial healthcare, ensuring alignment with contemporary evidence-based practice and organisational priorities.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply specialised knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and theory in PYDHS nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Demonstrated management experience and capability with an ability and commitment to practice collaboratively within the and the broader multidisciplinary health care team to deliver high quality care.
  • Demonstrated data analysis; outcome evaluation; service improvement and development skills.
  • Demonstrated management knowledge and skills specifically human resource management and advanced financial literacy within the healthcare environment.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra). Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
