The Registered Nurse will deliver high level, consumer focused contemporary Nursing Services as part of a multi-disciplinary team with special attention to treatment and risk issues pertaining to forensic/classified patients. Provide an evidence-based, contemporary clinical nursing service within the designated unit using leadership and management skills; this will include special attention to the assessment, maintenance and review of security and risk issues pertaining to Forensic patients.

What you'll be doing

The registered nurse supports excellence in nursing care and patient outcomes, is a competent clinician who provides nursing care with clinical competence and capability, optimising access to care services. The registered nurse works in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to provide person and family centred, quality, safe patient care.

What we're looking for

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Contemporary clinical knowledge in the area of Mental Health nursing, delivering competent nursing care in complex situations while providing support to other team members. 
  • While Mental Health qualifications are desirable, Mental Health experience is necessary as Forensic Nursing is a complex field providing complex Mental Health care.
  • Ability to communicate to a high standard effectively and engage with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors whilst displaying a high level of professional nursing care.
  • Ability to educate, inform, counsel and support patients and families on general and clinical information relevant to patient's care, accessing the Clinical Nurse when expert advice is required.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
