Come and join the Office of the Commissioner Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa (OCMOKK) and play a pivotal role in supporting the Commissioner under the Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa (Torres Strait Islander Traditional Child Rearing Practice) Act 2020 (MOKK Act).

In this role you will be responsible for all legal aspects of the Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa Program and provide independent, high-quality legal advice and representation to support the Commissioner in fulfilling their statutory responsibilities.

Working within a culturally significant and legally complex framework, you will engage directly with Torres Strait Islander families to support the legal recognition of Ailan Kastom child-rearing practices. Your work will contribute to ensuring that these longstanding cultural practices are recognised and supported through the legal system. Your work will uphold the principles of professional independence, ethical practice, and respect for cultural traditions.

This position offers the flexibility to be based in Cairns or another regional location.

The position requires travel, including representing matters before the Children's Court of Queensland. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced legal professional committed to cultural respect, legal excellence and social justice to contribute to a nationally significant legislative framework.
