About us: 

Food Services is a large, high-volume and supportive team environment, delivering approximately 500–550 meals per service. The team includes 6 chefs and 8–9 kitchen assistants per shift across a 7-day roster, working collaboratively to ensure consistent, high-quality service. The kitchen currently operates a fresh, bulk-cooked plating line service and is transitioning to a contemporary on-demand model. As one of the largest kitchens in Cairns, the unit offers a well-structured workplace with clearly defined roles and a strong team culture focused on quality, efficiency, and patient care.

About your role: 

  • Coordinate and support the preparation and production of meals to ensure meals are delivered within required timeframes and prepared to a high standard of quality, consistency, and presentation.
  • Support the Senior Head Production Supervisor in all aspects of kitchen operations, including workflow coordination, production planning, staff support, and service delivery.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and application of the Cairns Hospital Food Safety Program, maintaining food-safe and hygienic production areas and ensuring all required food safety documentation is completed accurately.
  • Exercise effective communication and interpersonal skills with staff, patients, and multidisciplinary teams to support a positive and patient-centred food service.
