About the Team

The Haematology and Haemophilia Service is part of the Queensland Paediatric Palliative care and Haematology and Oncology Network (QPPHON) which provides clinical leadership, multidisciplinary expertise and consultancy to state-wide clinicians.

The Haematology & Haemophilia Group / Service is a state-wide service which provides tertiary Level 6 inpatient and ambulatory care of children with non-malignant blood disorders, Haemophilia, inherited bleeding disorders and vascular medicine. The service provides care to patients with haemoglobinopathies receiving chronic transfusions, patients with thrombotic disorders with anticoagulation management of non-Cardiology patients and other varied conditions. The service has a collaborative team of medical, nursing and allied health staff to provide comprehensive care to acute and chronic patients as well as advocacy and co-ordination of complex care.

The Queensland Haemophilia Centre has services at the Queensland Children's Hospital (children and adolescents) and the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (adults) and provides a state-wide service providing comprehensive care to support children, adolescents and adults with inherited bleeding disorders and their families. QCHC cares for patients from infancy to adolescence (18 years of age) with severe, moderate and mild haemophilia A and B, and other inherited bleeding disorders such as von Willebrand disease, platelet function disorders and other rare bleeding disorders. These children and their families frequently require high levels of psycho-social support in the short, medium and long-term.

About the Role

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide and coordinate comprehensive care of patients using advanced practice skills in the area of Haemophilia and inherited bleeding disorders

The role of the Nurse Practitioner Haemophilia & Inherited Bleeding Disorders will:

  • Function in a collaborative model with the healthcare team to provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral as required.
  • Provide safe, quality, cost effective care and practice within the Nurse Practitioner's approved Practice Scope that is consistent with contemporary standards and evidence-based practice.

Autonomy

  • Clear authority for advanced scope of practice in an extended nursing role with autonomous decision making.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Exercise professional and clinical expertise in collaboration with nursing and multi- disciplinary stakeholders.
  • Advanced level decision making.
  • Partner with other health professionals to operationalise clinical and corporate governance requirements aligned with the defined scope of practice.
