We’re looking for a OO6 Ranger in Charge (Fire) to add to our team of rangers in leading and coordinating the K’gari Fire and Pest Management Team. You will be responsible for working cooperatively and sharing joint decision making with the Butchulla First Nations people to protect K’gari’s cultural values and assets. The Ranger in Charge (Fire) is responsible for co-delivering enhanced operational fire and pest management outcomes for the department on K’gari (Fraser Island).

The Ranger (Fire) will focus on the coordination and management of the K'gari (Fraser Island) Fire and Pest Management Team to deliver the region's priority across natural resource management, including the coordination and delivery of the planned burn program, bushfire preparedness and response with the Senior Ranger.
This position will provide specialist fire and NRM management direction and supervision of the K'gari (Fraser Island) Fire Management Team, NRM team andother operational management personnel and assisting resources.
The K'gari World Heritage Area attracts over 400,000 visitors each year and is internationally recognised for its outstanding natural features including: strikingly coloured sands, continually evolving complex coastal dune formations and unusual and diverse species and ecosystems. Fire is part of K'gari's unique ecosystem and cultural heritage. The management of fire is undertaken collaboratively with the Traditional Custodians and in accordance with the Values Based Management Framework Fire Strategy, which aims to maintain healthy ecosystems while keeping life, property and visitors safe.
This position is based on K'gari (Fraser Island) where rangers are required to work a 10/4 roster. K'gari is considered a remote location where rangers are required to live on island during their shift. Departmental single accommodation will be provided for the successful applicant, however travel to other locations on the island may be required from time to time. Daily commuting on a charter air service to and from Hervey Bay may be considered for this position but cannot be guaranteed. Please refer to the Location and Working in Guides.
