Pioneer State High School is seeking a passionate Community Education Counsellor (Identified) to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, families and communities.

In this role, you will support student engagement, participation and success in education while strengthening connections between home, school and community. You will also provide cultural guidance and cross-cultural awareness to staff and the wider school community, ensuring Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander perspectives are respectfully embedded across school life.

About the Role:

  • Provide educational counselling and support services within schools to ensure that the best possible assistance services are available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, students, families and communities.
  • Provide cross cultural awareness training to the broader school community.
  • The successful applicant will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively in a cross-cultural context. You will be confident delivering support programs and cultural training, and passionate about improving educational outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide educational counselling and support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and families.
  • Support and encourage student engagement in education through targeted programs and activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community organisations and support services.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of cultural and educational initiatives within the school.
  • Provide advice to staff on cultural protocols and perspectives.
  • Promote awareness of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions within the school community.
  • Support the development of positive partnerships between schools, families and communities.
  • Utilise funded programs in a responsible and accountable manner.
