Alexandra Hills State High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Community Education Counsellor (Identified) to support the educational engagement, wellbeing, and success of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students. The CEC plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and their families to enhance educational engagement, wellbeing and academic success. The position works collaboratively with school leadership, teachers and support staff to strengthen cultural understanding, support student engagement and attendance and promote successful educational pathways. About the Role:

  • Supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students through advocacy, mentoring and guidance.
  • Strengthening partnerships between the school, families and the local community.
  • Assisting staff to develop culturally responsive practices within the school environment
  • Promoting a positive and culturally safe environment that supports student wellbeing, engagement and achievement.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide educational counselling and support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students across multiple schools.
  • Develop and implement programs that improve student engagement, participation, and educational outcomes.
  • Strengthen partnerships between schools, families, communities, and external support services.
  • Promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness and perspectives within school communities.
  • Advise school leaders and staff on cultural protocols and community engagement practices.
  • Connect students and families with appropriate support services and community resources.
  • Manage and deliver school-based programs funded through state and Commonwealth initiatives.
  • Share relevant cultural and social information with staff, students, and families.
  • Collaborate with school staff, community members, and stakeholders to support student success and wellbeing.
