We're excited to welcome a Coordinator Patient Safety to the Patient Safety portfolio within the Safety, Quality and Improvement Unit (SQIU).

The Coordinator Patient Safety works closely and collaboratively with the Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Patient Safety Officers (PSOs) to provide a high level of professional and confidential administrative support. The role also liaises with, and provides subject matter expertise to clinicians, Office of the State Coroner and the Queensland Police Service (QPS) regarding Form 9s (death certificates), reportable deaths (coronial and police) and coronial inquiries, and with the Sunshine Coast Health Mortuary regarding the transfer of care and management of the deceased person to funeral homes.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate the issue of death certificates by medical staff, ensuring certificates comply with the requirements of the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Registrar General and the Coroner's Act 2003.
- Collaborate with the QPS and State Coroner's office in relation to details and specific legal requirements in individual death cases.
- Review processes related to deceased patients including proactively managing reports, correspondence and submissions for consideration / discussion and undertake further action as necessary. Monitor and manage timeframes to ensure all necessary actions / follow-up and responses are completed within required timeframes.
- Lead and independently manage and coordinate police statement requests in collaboration with QPS HLO and requesting QPS officers, including escalation to relevant CNC PSO when required.
Remuneration value up to $134,984 p.a., comprising salary between $108,735 - $118,307 p.a., employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (AO5).
