Crime and Intelligence Legal Services is seeking an experienced lawyer with a passion to make a difference to join our dedicated team. You will work in a dynamic environment with interesting operational work and involving the implementation of new powers where diverse experience including, but not limited to, criminal law, civil applications and administrative law is directly transferable. You will provide legal advice to investigators and senior officers on legal issues in relation to the investigation of serious and organised crime and the exercise of police powers. You will represent the Queensland Police Service before courts and tribunals when required and contribute to the development and delivery of legal training programs relevant to the investigation of major and organised criminal activity. You will work in a collaborative and supportive team and receive mentoring and guidance.

The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Perform the duties of specialist legal practitioner for the Queensland Police Service.
- Provide written and verbal advice on complex legal issues and assistance to investigators and officers in relation to the investigation of serious and organised criminal activity.
- Draft legal documents including warrants and affidavits.
- Represent the QPS in court proceedings including applications for covert warrants.
- Provide assistance to senior officers and investigators in an advisory capacity at interviews.
- Compile reports and provide recommendations as required concerning the progress of investigations into serious and organised crime.
- Preparation and submission of complex legal administrative reports relating to covert warrants and checking and updating of warrant records.
- Liaise with relevant outside bodies including Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and government agencies.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of legal training programs relevant to the investigation of major and organised criminal activity.
Role Requirements:
Mandatory:
- Possession of a degree in law from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualifications.
- Admission, or eligibility for immediate admission, as a barrister or solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
- Applicants must obtain and maintain a national security clearance. To be eligible for a national security clearance, an individual must be an Australian citizen and have a checkable background.

- The successful applicant will be required to perform duty in locations as directed by Legal Division.
