At State Library of Queensland, we preserve Queensland's stories so they can be discovered, shared and understood, now and into the future. From rare and fragile heritage materials to contemporary collections that reflect the lives of Queenslanders today, our work ensures that the State's cultural memory is protected and accessible for generations to come. Conservation is at the heart of this purpose.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Conservator, with a professional qualification, who can contribute to the ongoing preservation and conservation of State Library's heritage collection.

In this specialist role, your key focus will be carrying out paper, photograph and book conservation treatments, preparing collection material for exhibition or loan, and implementing preventive conservation strategies.

Reporting to the Coordinator Conservation, you will tackle complex conservation challenges and recommend treatments that promote best practice and are guided by the AICCM Code of Ethics and Practice. Your expertise will be critical in researching and implementing new and emerging treatment techniques and mentoring emerging conservators and student placements.

As an advocate for the preservation of collections, you will promote preventive conservation activities within the organisation and contribute to environmental monitoring, care and handling training, pest management, mould remediation and implementing safe archival storage strategies.

Just as important, you will contribute to a culturally safe, respectful and positive work environment where people feel supported to do their best work.

This is an opportunity to contribute and participate in a busy, professional conservation practice at a state-wide level, and make a lasting contribution to preserving Queensland's history.
