The Principal Policy Officer, Lived-Living Experience will use well developed Lived-Living Experience leadership expertise along with program and project management skills, business acumen and knowledge of the sector to progress the state-wide elevation of collective lived-living experience perspectives.

The role will work across all Queensland Mental Health Commission teams to ensure lived-living experience is embedded across strategic system reform planning, policy development, project management and governance.

The role will also support the implementation of the Commission's Commitment to partnering with people with lived-living experience in Queensland.

This role is an identified role under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld),
it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be a person who identifies as experiencing mental ill health,
and/or harms related to using alcohol and other drugs (AOD) and/or suicidal distress.

The Principal Policy Officer, Lived-Living Experience will use well developed lived-living experience leadership expertise along with program and project management skills, business acumen and knowledge of the sector to:

  • Provide high level strategic advice of contemporary lived-living experience research, hot issues, emerging trends and evolving best practice related to lived-living experience leadership, governance and partnerships.
  • Lead the delivery of lived-living experience strategic priorities including those set under Shifting minds, Every life, Achieving balance, and the Queensland Trauma Strategy by aligning cross-government, cross-sector and community efforts to drive and embed system reform.
  • Build and maintain partnerships and lead collaborations with people with lived-living experience, key sector partners, advocacy groups/peaks, target group representatives, and broader Commission teams to drive and embed system reform.
  • Plan, implement and manage programs of work through effective proposal and program logic development, ensuring procurement, contracts, budgets, timelines and reporting meet agreed deliverables.
  • Research, write and prepare high-quality policy documents, including submissions, presentations, briefing notes, reports and responses to ministerial and stakeholder requests.
  • Represent the Commission externally in areas relating to your work portfolio and lived-living expertise.

Qualifications/professional registration/other requirements

  • A personal lived-living experience of mental-ill health, and/or harms from AOD use, and/or suicidal distress.
  • A personal experience of engaging with services, supports and the broader health and wellbeing sector.
  • A strong understanding of the lived-living experience community and movement as well as Lived-Living Experience (Peer) Workforces.
  • Working knowledge and application of current lived-living experience discipline frameworks, guidelines, research and continually evolving evidence base is essential.
  • Recognised advanced expertise in working and leading from the overarching discipline of lived-living experience.
  • While not mandatory, a relevant qualification would be well regarded.
