About the Team/Organisation:
The Office of the Deputy Director-General (DDG) supports the DDG Rail in developing the capability of our people and leading engagement with the media, key stakeholders and our Minister. In the role of the Principal Advisor (Government Relations and StakeholderEngagement), you will support the Office of the Deputy Director-General (DDG), by leading highly complex briefing notes, confidential cabinet submissions, strategy documents, and internal and external stakeholder communications for the Rail Division. You will offer Government and communication advice to stakeholders.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Support the DDG and Manager (ODDG) to prepare, review and lead government relations, communication and engagement materials, including departmental briefing notes, submissions, and correspondence for the Rail Division.
Liaise with a broad range of stakeholders, both internally and externally, to research, analyse, and make strategic recommendations on critical and sensitive matters, often in extremely short timeframes.
Develop strong, positive relationships with a range of key senior internal stakeholders to provide strategic advice, support and expertise to the Rail Division leadership team.
Plan, manage, and implement broad stakeholder engagement and communication that outline the benefits, activities, and key milestones of rail projects and programs.
Ensure complex, highly sensitive strategic topics are well understood via concise and accurate communication.
Proactively identify potential stakeholder issues and develop mitigation strategies.

Highly desirable qualifications:
Previous experience in working in high performing teams in an advisory capacity in a similar organisation.
Relevant degree or qualification in communications, journalism, public relations, corporate affairs, government relation or related field.
Requirements of the role:
Stakeholder engagement experience: Demonstrated experience in coordinating stakeholder engagement and communication efforts within complex project environments, preferably in the transport or infrastructure sector.
Focus on outcomes: Maintains a high standard of practice through governance and risk management. Works with the team to develop shared objectives and clear indicators for success.
Leads strategically: Works with the team to organise work priorities so they deliver on broader organisational commitments.
Stakeholder Relationship Management: Initiates two-way collaboration by providing information and advice in a timely, proactive and non-technical manner, supporting the team to do the same.
Able to minimise risk: Upholds integrity through responsible management and use of processes. Works with the team to evaluate options and develop appropriate plans to mitigate risks.
Insightful decision making: Gains insight into issues by analysing the available information in a critical manner. Accepts decision making responsibility and demonstrates judgement about when to escalate issues.
