About us

With branches in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine and a site office in Emerald, the Transport and Main Roads Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region (CQ Region) looks after 9076km of state-controlled roads and about 1510km of the National Road Network. This role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).

The Role

In the role of Senior Engineer (Civil) you will provide specialist technical advice in relation to project planning, road safety matters, corridor management, and road network preservation and rehabilitation needs (including pavement and structures).

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering and/or providing support, advice, and assistance to other officers in support of the unit's deliverables, including:

o strategies and programs for the maintenance and rehabilitation of pavements and structures.
o planning projects (studies, strategies, plans, options analyses and business cases);
o road safety upgrade programs;
o road crash investigations;
o assessment of various types of permits pertaining to third party and heavy vehicle impacts on, and access to the road corridor and wider network;

  • The identification of network deficiencies and prioritization, planning, evaluation, reporting and general management of projects for enhancing the road network.
  • Working in a collaborative and customer-centric manner and developing strong, positive, and productive relationships with other government agencies, local governments and other key stakeholder groups.
  • Provision of engineering input into responses or responding directly to customer enquiries regarding road transport infrastructure matters across the district.

Mandatory & Desirable Qualifications

  • A four-year, Washington Accord accredited, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalence which is assessed/accepted by Engineers Australia against Washington Accord benchmarks.
  • Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment to the position.
  • A current Class ‘C' Drivers Licence
  • Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
