About us
Transport and Main Roads' (TMR) vision of connected communities in a sustainable, thriving and inclusive Queensland underpins everything we do. The Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region is responsible for managing and maintaining more than 9,000 km of state‑controlled roads and delivering the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP) across one of the largest and most diverse regions in the state.

With offices in Rockhampton, Mackay, Barcaldine and Emerald, the region offers the unique opportunity to work on impactful infrastructure projects while enjoying a relaxed regional lifestyle close to the coast, outback and vibrant local communities.

The role
As a Principal Engineer (Civil), you will lead the operational delivery of road infrastructure, rehabilitation and maintenance projects. You will provide high‑level technical expertise and professional judgement across design, construction and contract administration, while mentoring project managers and contributing to strong governance and performance outcomes.

You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard, while managing stakeholder relationships, contractor performance, risk and compliance.

Key responsibilities include:
• Managing the development and delivery of maintenance, rehabilitation and infrastructure programs
• Providing specialist engineering advice across planning, design, construction and operational activities
• Leading governance, quality, environmental and risk management processes
• Managing contractor performance and ensuring value‑for‑money outcomes
• Supporting and mentoring project delivery teams
• Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

About you
You are a confident, solutions‑focused engineering professional with demonstrated experience delivering complex civil infrastructure projects. You bring strong leadership capability, sound technical judgement and the ability to influence outcomes in a dynamic operational environment.  

Mandatory requirements:
• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) accredited under the Washington Accord (or equivalent) 
• Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) 
• Current Class C driver licence.
