About the Role:

  • Provide leadership and direction in the planning and implementation of division priorities, ensuring that the outcomes are aligned to, and supportive of, the department's agenda for improvement in schools.
  • Provide high level strategic advice to senior officers of the department and other key stakeholders on issues relevant to the specific accountabilities of the role.

About You:

As the Principal Advisor Autism, you will focus on:

  • Building the capability of school and regional staff in evidence-based practice to support students with Autism.  
  • You will provide high level strategic advice to senior officers and school teams to support culture change, review systems and practices and implement evidence-based practices for Autistic students.  In addition, you will work with families and schools to develop and enhance partnerships in the interest of best outcomes for students.
  • While performing this role, you will connect and build relationships with regional, school and statewide colleagues to manage a multifaceted, dynamic workload.
  • You will require excellent initiative, time management and be able to leverage coaching and mentoring skills.
  • You will work within the MNR Student Services Team and also with the statewide Autism Hub team, where collaboration and mutual support are highly valued, and contribution to learning and delivery of statewide capability opportunities align with evidence-based practices.
  • You will support school teams to build sustainable practices and processes, so a mix of face to face, observations and online support will be required to establish flexible, responsive processes in collaboration with school communities.
  • Travel throughout Metro North Region will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high level advice and support to senior officers within the division as well as the department on policy and strategy relating to state schools.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of division priorities for all students in state schools.
  • Contribute, as a member of the senior management team, to setting the strategic direction for the branch and ensuring the effectiveness of policies, standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the strategic direction and activities as defined in priorities set by senior management.
  • Provide ongoing evaluation of the activities and work practices within the functional area of the position to ensure alignment with changing corporate goals.
  • Lead and manage multiple teams and projects and coordinate the development of systemic initiatives relating to departmental priorities.
  • Ensure the optimal use of human and financial resources to achieve agreed goals, oversee the management of State and Commonwealth funds, where applicable, and manage reporting requirements.
  • Ensure effective communication, integration, coordination and liaison occurs within the division, across the department and with other external stakeholders.
