The Role
An opportunity has become available for a Deputy Chair, Human Research Ethics Committee to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 13 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Assist with the low-risk review process, protecting the rights of research participants, whilst maintaining a high scientific and ethical standard of research
- Identify and facilitate the reporting of conflicts of interest and ensure these are managed in accordance with relevant legislation
- Maintain expert knowledge of the National Health and Medical Research Council national statement and other state, national and international policies
- Provide expert advice and support to research participants and/or researchers regarding their participation
About you
To be successful in this position you will require:
- A tertiary degree in a relevant health related discipline
- Background in clinical research and/or human research ethics deliberation would be well regarded
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary
- Permanent part time (15.20 hours per fortnight)
- Base salary ranging from $70.66 - $75.83 per hour
About Us
The Medical Services, Clinical Governance and Research division plays a critical role in ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and well-coordinated clinical care and research at Gold Coast Health. Headed by the Chief Medical Officer, the division provides comprehensive support in medical administration through key units such as the Medical Education Unit (MEU), Medical Workforce Services Unit (MWSU), and Medical Workforce and Clinical Practice, while also managing fatigue risk to promote sustainable working conditions for medical staff. In parallel, the Clinical Governance team drives continuous improvement in patient care by upholding core pillars of safety, workforce quality, risk management, and consumer focus. Their work is underpinned by strong leadership, performance monitoring, data analysis, and adherence to standards and policy. The Research Office offers a comprehensive service supporting Gold Coast Health staff at all stages of their research, including project design, clinical trials, ethics and governance, grant acquisition and funding, statistical analysis and dissemination support.
