Principal Finance Officer Taxation

You will be responsible for supporting the Director, Taxation and the Manager, Goods and Services Tax in ensuring Queensland Health’s Commonwealth and State taxation obligations are met by providing leadership, policy advice and practical solutions to the organisation. As a member of the team which is the central point of authority within Queensland Health for taxation interpretation and policy advice, you will work collaboratively across the organisation.

Your Key responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and technical expertise in corporate taxation policy and practices to ensure Queensland Health's Commonwealth and State taxation obligations are met, including developing appropriate better practice approaches such as risk management in the Department's taxation administration.
- Develop and maintain appropriate policies, procedures, guidelines, training programs and systems to facilitate and improve Queensland Health's taxation compliance.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of developments in taxation legislation, Australian Taxation Office (ATO) rulings, determinations, case law, sector-wide issues and financial systems in order to provide accurate advice and recommendations necessary to preserve Queensland Health's taxation compliance.
Role fit:
- Demonstrated sound knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply the requirements of, relevant legislation, policies, taxation rulings, determinations and cases, as well as financial management and accounting practices in the public sector, with particular emphasis on taxation administration.
- Demonstrated experience and successful performance in corporate taxation policy and practices, including developing and implementing appropriate better practice approaches and continuous improvement initiatives in taxation administration; and developing, recommending and implementing appropriate solutions in relation to complex financial and taxation issues.
- Demonstrated expertise in the use of information management technology and financial systems, together with experience in the research, review, interpretation and analysis of information and in formulating recommendations and reports to management.
