The Role

An opportunity has become available for a Nursing Director (Theatre Management) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 14 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

  • Direct the operational and professional performance of perioperative services at Gold Coast University Hospital
  • Lead the implementation and oversight of robust clinical governance systems to ensure compliance
  • Collaboratively engage with leadership to drive service redesign, demand and capacity planning, and evidence-based models of care
  • Innovate workforce strategy, education, succession planning, staff wellbeing and engagement
  • Represent the service at executive, operational, and clinical governance forums

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent  
  • Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

About Us

The Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) Theatres Department is a highly specialised clinical area responsible for delivering safe, efficient surgical and procedural care to patients across a wide range of specialties. This includes operating theatres, anaesthetic areas, recovery/post-anaesthetic care (PACU), and supporting services such as sterile supply and equipment management. The unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of perioperative nurses, anaesthetists, surgeons, technicians, and support staff who work collaboratively to manage elective, emergency, and trauma surgery. The theatre unit operates within strict clinical governance, infection prevention, and safety standards, while balancing high patient throughput, complex technology, and resource constraints to support optimal patient outcomes and hospital performance.
