The location

Charters Towers Health Service is a 25-bed facility providing integrated acute and primary health care services through a range of programs including: community, child, youth and family, mental health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and outreach services.

Charters Towers is one of the most beautiful inland cities in Queensland, with its unrivalled architecture and unique history. Discover this enchanting outback town which is just an hour and a half west of Townsville. 

About the opportunity   

The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) assists and supports Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses in the provision of quality patient care. This requires performing of service activities and aspects of direct patient care.  The AIN works under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse however retains accountability for personal actions in fulfilling their role. 

Requirements:

  • Highly Desirable: Applicants who meet one of the following criteria are considered highly desirable:
    • Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, or
    • Successful completion of the first semester full-time equivalent Diploma of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies, or
    • Successful completion of the first year full-time equivalent undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies.
  • Successful applicant will be required to complete Townsville University Hospital mandatory competencies
  • Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
  • On-call: Appointees may be required to participate in an on-call
  • Driver Licence: This position requires the applicant to possess an appropriate license to operate a Class C (car) motor vehicle. 
  • Applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, e.g., Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix and Power Point.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role. Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Tuberculosis.

  • Salary range: $43.81 - $47.97  p.h. (casual rate)  (NG1-1)
  • Locality allowance
