Because this desk is the primary entry point for crisis care, we ensure our clinicians are deeply backed by a culture of real-time debriefing and shared decision-making.

You will work alongside nurses and allied health professionals who actively unpack complex presentations together, utilising their unique disciplinary lenses to find the best pathways forward.

The Central Queensland Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (CQMHAODS) provides specialist, recovery-focused care to a diverse regional population exceeding 250,000. Operating 24/7 in Rockhampton, our Acute Care Team is the heartbeat of crisis mental health support for the region. Grounded in our Destination 2030 Strategy, we focus on investing in our people's futures, fostering connected teams, and ensuring Central Queenslanders receive amazing care when they are at their most vulnerable.

About the role:

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary team, external referral sources, consumers, and carers to promote recovery-focused care.
  • Provide a high standard of clinical triage and crisis intervention services to consumers and families using evidence-based practice.
  • Work flexibly and efficiently within the 24/7 team structure to ensure seamless service continuity across the region.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care for individuals experiencing acute or serious mental illness.
  • Participate in quality initiatives, clinical audits, and ongoing service improvement activities that enhance acute mental health delivery.

About you:

  • You hold a tertiary qualification and current registration or eligibility for full professional membership (AHPRA registration for Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Psychology; AASW eligibility for Social Work).
  • You possess advanced clinical knowledge of serious mental illness, the Queensland Mental Health Act 2016, and the National Standards for Mental Health Services.
  • You demonstrate high-level therapeutic communication and de-escalation skills, with the ability to bring order and safety to complex, high-pressure situations.
  • You have a proven track record of managing workloads and prioritising clinical tasks effectively using strong time management skills.
  • You are a collaborative team player who thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment and is deeply committed to independent practice and continuous professional growth.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $139,252 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $57.48 - $61.55 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
