We are seeking an experienced and innovative nursing leader for the pivotal position of Director of Nursing – Workforce Sustainability. Based within the Health Workforce Division, this is a rare opportunity to provide strategic leadership and contribute to the planning and implementation of forward-thinking workforce strategies that will shape the future of nursing in Queensland.  As a key focus, the role will undertake a critical workforce project within the newly-established Early Careers Reform team, contributing to the transformation of early careers pathways. This fast-paced, challenging role will work collaboratively across Queensland Health to deliver innovative and sustainable workforce solutions to meet the evolving needs of healthcare services across the state.

What you'll do

As the Nursing Director, you will demonstrate advanced clinical, management and leadership expertise to provide high-level corporate support that optimises nursing practice and service delivery. You will lead the strategic planning, coordination and direction of policies that support nursing workforce sustainability, including oversight of enterprise bargaining processes for nurses. In this role, you will apply expert and comprehensive knowledge of contemporary nursing practice, workforce planning and strategic human resource management to inform decision-making and drive effective workforce outcomes across the system.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a nurse. Post registration clinical experience and professional recognition evidenced by credentialed status or achievement. While not mandatory, a relevant qualification or progress in relevant tertiary studies would be well regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to distil expertise and intelligence from clinical and professional stakeholders in Hospital and Health Services and Professional Nursing and Midwifery Colleges and other organisations to actively inform and contribute to the priorities of OCNO.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of health care systems and priorities at the state and national level.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to, contribute to and develop strategic human resource management strategies for the nursing and midwifery professions including the development of evidence-based policy, parameters/indicators, and metrics to evaluate effectiveness in the quality of nursing practice and practice development.
