Role details
The Surgical and Perioperative Wards at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Registered Nurse to join their team on a permanent or temporary basis.

Your opportunity
As a Registered Nurse, you will provide evidence-based, patient-centred nursing care across a diverse range of surgical services within Mackay Base Hospital, including the General Surgical Unit, Day Surgery Unit, and Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Ward. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality care to patients throughout their surgical, procedural and rehabilitation journey.
This role offers the opportunity to develop your clinical knowledge and skills in general surgery, urology, trauma, orthopaedics, rehabilitation, day surgery and endoscopy. You will be supported to practise to your full scope, contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives, and participate in ongoing professional development while delivering compassionate care that promotes positive patient outcomes.
About the Team
The Surgical and Perioperative Services team at Mackay Base Hospital provides high-quality, patient-centred care across a range of specialty areas, offering nurses a diverse and rewarding clinical environment.
The General Surgical Unit (G1) is a 30-bed ward specialising in the care of patients with general surgical, urology and trauma conditions.
The Day Surgery Unit, part of the Perioperative, Women's Health and Ambulatory Care Stream, delivers comprehensive care across the surgical continuum—from pre-admission through to post-discharge follow-up. Services include the Pre-Admission Clinic, Day of Surgery Admissions, Second Stage Day-Only Recovery, Extended Day Surgery and Endoscopy. The unit supports a wide range of diagnostic and interventional endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), providing staff with opportunities to work across a variety of clinical settings and expand their skills.
F0 is a 28-bed Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Ward comprising 18 orthopaedic beds for elective and trauma patients, and 10 rehabilitation beds. The ward provides specialised care focused on optimising patient recovery, rehabilitation and return to independence.
Together, these units offer a dynamic and supportive environment where clinicians can develop a broad range of skills while delivering safe, evidence-based and compassionate care to patients throughout their surgical and rehabilitation journey.
