As a Principal Engineer (Civil), you will lead the management and delivery of significant planning projects across the Fitzroy District, providing specialist technical advice on road safety, network preservation, rehabilitation needs, and transport infrastructure planning. Working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, you will play a key role in developing transport solutions that support economic growth, community connectivity and sustainable regional development.

With branches in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine and a site office in Emerald, the Transport and Main Roads Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region (CQ Region) looks after 9076km of state-controlled roads and about 1510km of the National Road Network.
This role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).

The purpose of the Principal Engineer (Civil) role you will provide specialist technical advice in relation to road safety matters and network preservation and rehabilitation needs.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Lead the management and delivery of the Fitzroy District planning projects nominated in the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program to ensure completion in accordance with required timeframes, cost, quality, and service standards.
• Provide high-level planning and engineering guidance and input into planning and design projects, including interpreting and scoping design requirements to meet client requirements and outcomes and guiding others to develop realistic design solutions.
• Prepare planning and design briefs, call quotations, and let tenders, manage consultants and contractors, evaluate transport options to ensure the recommended solutions produce the desired transport, economic, social and environmental outcomes.
• Monitor and report on project progress against predetermined time, cost and quality specifications.
• Identify and manage networks and alliances of all stakeholders and manage the expectations and issues of all parties, including identifying possible political and high-risk matters to ensure they are dealt with in a timely and professional manner
• Lead and manage the project planning team and consultants to ensure all members are appropriately skilled and utilised, and to ensure deliverable, time and budgetary requirements are met.
• Prepare and deliver submissions and reports relating to planning and technical issues and identify appropriate mitigation strategies to overcome problems or obstacles related to the projects.
• Review state and local government planning documents to assess their implications for Transport and Main Roads and provide response to those documents on behalf of the District.
