Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats. Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.

Strategy, Investment and Performance (SIP) delivers a range of services to support Biosecurity Queensland (BQ). SIP partners with BQ program areas to provide specialised advice on best business practice and technology to serve internal (and sometimes external) customers and business stakeholders.

As our Principal Investigator, you will:

  • Plan and undertake major, complex and/or sensitive investigations into non- compliance with legislation administered by Biosecurity Queensland and prepare  and submit high-quality briefs of evidence.
  • Work to support the organisational strategy by helping to develop team capability, including (if required) leading a small team of Investigators/Compliance staff across the organisation.
  • Provide expert advice on investigations, enforcement activity, risk assessments and best practice in regulatory compliance.

There are some requirements that we see as essential. You must:

  • Possess a current "C" class drivers' licence.
  • Be prepared to travel intrastate and work outside normal business hours to undertake duties associated with the role.
  • Commit to obtain vaccinations (or provide evidence of prior vaccinations) for animal or plant borne diseases such as Q fever.
  • Be able to drive for extended periods (within driver standards) and carry out manual tasks in the field.

This role requires the ability to undertake high level investigations and determine appropriate compliance actions. Previous experience undertaking complex regulatory or criminal investigations, investigation management, and/or presentation of oral evidence in court and/or tribunal is highly regarded.

You will have a keen eye for detail, great time management and effective problem-skilling skills. More than anything, you will have a positive attitude and make a great  contribution to our close-knit and connected team.
