The Role
An opportunity has become available for a Fellow (Upper Gastrointestinal) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 13 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
- Advocate for the patient which includes protecting the patient, being the patient's voice, provision of quality care.
- Participate in major elective surgery including oesophagectomy, gastrectomy, complex hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery and endocrine surgery.
- Participate in the supervision, training and professional development of Junior medical staff
- Contribute to perioperative management of acute and complex surgical patients
About you
To be successful in this position you will require:
- Tertiary degree in Medicine/Surgery (MBBS)
- AHPRA Registration
- Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in general surgery (or equivalent overseas qualification) and be eligible for medical registration in Australia
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
- Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
- Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary
- Permanent part time (64 hours per fortnight)
- Base salary ranging from $87.99 - $96.96 per hour

The Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service has a tertiary level Upper Gastrointestinal Unit offering a full range of services in Oesophago-gastric malignancy, complex hernia, benign foregut and endocrine surgery.
The service is supported by a well-established multidisciplinary team that maintains a close working relationship with other departments including Gastroenterology, Oncology, Interventional Radiology, the Intensive Care Unit (including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation support), and Allied Health services.
