The Office of the Queensland Ombudsman is seeking two Senior Investigators to join the Investigation and Resolution Unit. In this role, you will conduct complex and sensitive administrative investigations about Queensland public sector agencies, communicate with complainants and agencies, prepare clear written reasons for decisions, and make recommendations to improve administrative practices and procedures. This is an opportunity to use your analytical skills, judgement and communication skills to contribute to fair and accountable public administration in Queensland.

About the Office

The Office of the Queensland Ombudsman is an independent integrity agency that supports fair and accountable public administration in Queensland.

We investigate complaints about Queensland Government agencies, local governments and public universities. We also inspect and report on detention services and monitor how public sector entities manage public interest disclosures.

Our work helps improve administrative decision-making, strengthen public sector accountability and contribute to better outcomes for the Queensland community.

About the Role

We are seeking two Senior Investigators to join the Investigation and Resolution Unit.

As a Senior Investigator, you will conduct complex and sensitive administrative investigations about the actions and decisions of Queensland public sector agencies. Investigations may arise from complaints, referrals from Parliament or the Ombudsman's own initiative.

You will communicate with complainants and agencies throughout the investigation process, assess information carefully, prepare clear written reasons for decisions, and make recommendations to improve administrative practices and procedures.

This role requires sound judgement, strong analytical skills, professionalism and the ability to communicate clearly with a range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will -

  • conduct complex and sensitive administrative investigations under the Ombudsman Act
  • communicate with complainants and agencies throughout investigations
  • analyse information, identify risks and consider possible solutions
  • draft correspondence explaining investigation outcomes and reasons for decisions
  • prepare reports for different audiences, including public sector agencies and Parliament
  • identify systemic issues arising from complaints, investigations or internal reviews
  • recommend improvements to administrative practices and procedures
  • create and maintain accurate records of your work
  • contribute to improved service delivery, accountability and organisational initiatives within the Office.

Depending on operational requirements, you may also work across different areas, including Investigation and Resolution and Internal Review.
