The Executive Manager, Quality, Compliance and Safety at Forensic Science Queensland (FSQ) will be responsible for quality assurance, compliance oversight, and WHS management across FSQ’s service provision. The Executive Manager will provide effective leadership for quality, compliance, safety and any related training functions, and will deliver effective quality and compliance management systems for FSQ including meeting accreditation, legislative and policy requirements and leading continuous improvement initiatives. This also includes compliance with work, health and safety requirements and training for operating in complex corporate and scientific environments.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain oversight of defined quality and compliance standards and procedures to ensure high quality and reliable forensic science service provision.
  • Support the Director and two Deputy Directors to lead the development and implementation of a robust and proactive quality, compliance and safety management framework across FSQ's service provision.
  • Provide independent advice and support to the FSQ management team on matters relating to quality, WHS, compliance, training and governance.
  • Professionally and effectively enable FSQ's corporate and quality function in partnership with the Executive Manager, Quality Biology and the Executive Manager, Quality Chemistry to:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant certification, accreditation, regulatory, compliance and legislative requirements.
  • Identify and advise on requirements relevant to the retention, storage and disposal of forensic samples and FSQ records.
  • Identify and monitor organisational risk and provide consultative advice to the leadership team on risk minimisation strategies; and,
  • Comply with the Queensland government legislation, regulation, directives, policies and procedures regarding governance, information privacy, WHS,
  • Industrial relations and human resource management, procurement and financial management.
  • Actively participate as a member of the FSQ Leadership Team, informing decision making and providing expert advice, consultation and direction on quality and compliance including operational performance issues.
  • Coordinate FSQ's service delivery goals and lead the development of operational performance monitoring and improvement initiatives to ensure the provision of quality scientific services to clients and stakeholders.
  • Maintain a contemporary knowledge of national and international future directions in quality, compliance, safety and learning and development, ensuring that the organisational performance benchmarks favourably against comparable organisations.
  • Represent FSQ on state-wide, national or international committees relevant to quality, compliance, service improvement and professional standards relevant to forensic science.
  • Lead a small corporate team who enable quality, compliance, safety and training across FSQ.
  • Other duties as determined by the Director / Deputy Directors of FSQ.

Technical skills, abilities, and cultural capability:

  • Knowledge of contemporary quality and compliance systems, professional standards, service delivery requirements and management techniques, particularly in a forensic science context (national accreditation programs - NATA/ISO accreditation).
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing and reviewing policies and procedures in accordance with the legislation, regulations and standards that apply to a multidisciplinary organisation, particularly in a forensic science context.
  • High level ability to coordinate and implement contemporary and innovative quality policies, procedures and processes, and to encourage their application and compliance by staff and clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in the leadership and management of teams in a quality assurance and / or compliance environment.
  • Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience, with proven ability to plan, coordinate and prioritise tasks to achieve project or organisational outcomes.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, and verbal and written ability in order to constructively manage staff, client/stakeholder issues, and to ensure positive outcomes for clients, stakeholders, and the Department.
