General Manager Venues and Commercialisation

We are seeking an experienced senior executive to lead and manage our Venues and Precincts, maximising multi-usability and increasing opportunities for Queenslanders to participate in healthy lifestyle activities. This is while concurrently realising our venues and precincts’ commercial potential, driving growth and sustainability.

This role reports to the Deputy Director-General, Sport and Racing and is a member of the Sport and Racing Leadership Team and the department’s Senior Leadership Team.

It is responsible for leading:
• operations of sport and recreation venues and precincts across the State
• risk management
• child safeguarding
• the delivery of high quality and safe services and programs at venues
• the commercialisation of the assets within the department’s control.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and oversee the management of purpose-built sport and active recreation facilities, venues and precincts.
  • Deliver programs and services in alignment with government priorities and community needs.
  • Provide high quality advice, information and support to the Deputy Director-General including representation of the department at state-wide and national forums. 
  • Drive commercial growth by identifying and developing new income streams and partnerships.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe high-quality sport and active recreation services and programs while achieving business development and growth opportunities.
  • Lead the implementation of child safeguarding strategies to ensure risks relating to the safety and wellbeing of children are managed in accordance with the requirements of the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 and Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000.
  • Manage and ensure the operations of venues and precincts are within budget, adherence to government and governance accountabilities and best practice administration.
  • Contribute to a workplace culture based on defined values and behaviours, ensuring a positive work environment that is safe, healthy, diverse, respectful and inclusive.

This role requires travel including overnight stays. Some travel may be to remote communities.

  • Mandatory Credentials
    • You must have a current driver's licence to perform this role.
    • Working with Children Check (Blue Card) is required.
    • There are no mandatory credentials required for this role but qualifications and professional memberships relevant to the role will be highly regarded.
    • Experience as an executive leader across complex government and/or venue operations including commercialisation will be highly regarded.
