As the Principal Project Accountant, you will play a vital role in achieving the Electoral Commission of Queensland's strategic and operational goals.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading financial planning: In consultation with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), develop and implement the ECQ's 2028 election budget cycle through effective strategic, business, and financial planning processes.
  • Supporting project teams: Assist election Program Managers in analysing and understanding financial and project data to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Financial analysis and control: Analyse costs, pricing, variable contributions, and project performance against budgets/forecasts, while managing cash flow and expenditure.
  • Preparing submissions and reports: Contribute to budget submissions, briefing notes, reports, costing methodologies, and correspondence on complex financial and budgeting matters.
  • Forecasting and coding: Collaborate with election project teams and the finance team to prepare accurate expenditure forecasts and ensure correct cost coding of expenditures.
  • Resolving financial issues: Investigate and resolve project accounting discrepancies and variances in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Streamlining reporting processes: Lead a structured, efficient, and accurate month-end reporting process in partnership with the finance team.
  • Providing strategic advice: Deliver high-quality financial insights and timely reports to the CFO to support election event planning and execution.
  • Driving best practices: In consultation with the CFO, develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems that align with legislative requirements and internal guidelines.
  • Building relationships: Foster strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Promoting team culture: Cultivate a positive, cohesive team environment that values collaboration, wellbeing, and respect across the Finance team and the broader ECQ workforce.
