Legal Aid Queensland are seeking an AI Capability Lead to join the Information Services division in our Brisbane office in a temporary capacity. You will play a key role in shaping strategic thinking through your leadership. You will identify and consider appropriate AI technology that aligns with strategic objectives and drive the innovative use of technology to deliver benefits to stakeholders.

About the role

The adoption of AI Technology at Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ) must balance innovation with fairness, transparency, and the needs of vulnerable clients. This role ensures that AI is introduced in a way that strengthens access to justice and public trust.

  • Research, analyse and provide strategic advice on the latest advancements in generative AI, machine learning, and data science
  • Manage and execute strategies to implement the use of AI technology, providing advice on adoption, ethics, assurance, and governance.
  • Support the development and uplift of new AI skills and capabilities across the workforce.
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships with external digital and data capability leads and participate in a community of practice.
  • Develop and implement AI solutions to improve productivity in response to evolving needs.
  • Evaluate AI product performance, and create reports and presentations to communicate insights, trends, and risks.
  • Ensure AI initiatives adhere to data integrity, compliance, and governance standards while leveraging multiple data sources to assess user interaction and impact of AI products.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring clear communication and alignment on AI project goals, progress, and outcomes.

About you

  • You have experience in the design and delivery of digital capability uplift programs including providing policy advice, preparing briefing notes, policies and other artefacts relating to the use of AI.
  • You have knowledge and awareness of emerging AI technologies, monitor emerging trends, consider issues, and anticipate priorities with a specific focus on generative AI. You understand AI in the context of risk assessment, policy and governance.
  • You communicate in a clear, concise and articulate manner, engage effectively with stakeholders and can represent the organisation at internal and external forums. You discuss issues credibly, offer convincing rationale, negotiate persuasively and your advice influences decision making.
