The Senior Medical Officer will be part of a unique model to provide high level specialist paediatric services within a tertiary setting to ensure the provision of high quality, safe and family centred care within CHQ HHS. Provide specialist paediatric services to an integrated, rural, multidisciplinary, paediatric service, thus providing co-ordinated care and a seamless patient journey from rural community to tertiary base and back.

About the General Paediatric Team

The General Paediatric team at Queensland Children's hospital provides inpatient care to children between the ages of 0 – 18 years of age and outpatient care to children living within the QCH local catchment. In addition, General Paediatrics provides outreach services to Central West HHS, Cherbourg and South West HHS, providing General Paediatric outpatient care to children within those catchments.

General Paediatrics are heavily involved in training of junior doctors at all levels of training as well as  medical students on rotation from the University of Queensland.

About the Role

In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:

  • Provide high level specialist paediatric services within a tertiary and regional setting to ensure the provision of high quality, safe and family centred care within CHQ HHS.
  • Provide expert advice and actively promote the delivery of contemporary, evidence based patient and family centred care.
  • Commitment and contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health equity reform, to Close the Gap by 2033, as underpinned by the CHQ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Equity Strategy 2025 – 2028.  
  • Actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resources management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, work, health and safety, and ethical behaviour. 
  • Develop a positive culture within your division which encourages and recognises high performance, builds leadership capabilities, and supports staff to maximise their health and wellbeing.
