The Laboratory Assistant, Public Health Virology, is responsible for processing specimens for serology and molecular testing. Additional duties include temperature monitoring, autoclaving and general cleanliness of the laboratory. Provide a professional, confidential and client focussed administrative and secretarial support service within a laboratory environment to the team members of Public Health Virology.

• The ability to rapidly learn and apply knowledge and skills in the receipting, labelling, verification, processing and registration of samples.
• Work effectively in a collaborative team environment and communicate professionally across disciplines.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage time effectively in a process-driven environment with competing priorities.
• You may be required to work outside of standard hours on a rostered basis, to support other staff members within the work area to ensure urgent analyses are performed and maintain expertise to ensure continuity of service.
• Knowledge of and or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of laboratory information systems (AUSLAB) relevant to the duties of the position.  
• Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills and communication skills to enable effective interaction within a work group and between clients (internal and external).
