Migration Queensland (MQ) is the Queensland Government agency responsible for skilled, business, and National Innovation visa nominations. In partnership with the Department of Home Affairs, MQ nominates skilled migrants to live and work in Queensland. MQ also conducts migration assessments and collaborates with TIQ's network, migration agencies, businesses, industry bodies, and stakeholders to promote Queensland as a destination for migration and investment.

About the Role

The Principal Project Officer, Migration Queensland plays a key leadership role in program delivery, team performance, and continuous improvement. The role oversees the State Nominated Migration Program (SNMP), ensuring effective governance and high-quality, timely nomination outcomes. Reporting to the Manager, Migration Queensland, you will lead a team of case officers, translate strategic priorities into practical program settings, drive stakeholder engagement, manage complex operational matters, build team capability, and use data and insights to enhance program performance and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate strategic priorities into program settings, processes, and initiatives.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement with government, industry, and migration sector stakeholders to support Queensland's migration objectives.
  • Oversee the delivery of skilled, business, and National Innovation visa nomination programs, ensuring quality, consistency, and effective governance.
  • Manage a small team, including workload allocation, quality assurance, and resolution of complex cases.
  • Build team capability and foster a high-performing, collaborative culture that supports efficient assessment practices, continuous learning, and delivery of operational and strategic priorities.
  • Drive program improvements through performance analysis, risk identification, and evidence-based reporting.

About You

To excel in this role, you will bring strong leadership, program delivery, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate strategic priorities into effective operational outcomes. You will have experience leading high-performing teams, applying sound judgement in complex environments, and using governance, risk, and analytical frameworks to drive continuous improvement. Additionally, you will be skilled at building trusted relationships, using data to inform decision-making, and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders.
