About us: 

Infrastructure Asset Management (IAM) provides planning, construction, operation and maintenance of all Health Service physical facilities, engineering systems, plant and equipment to meet strategic objectives within a quality environment. IAM is staffed with professional, trade operational, and administrative staff. Trades include electrical, fitting, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration, trade assistants and apprentices.

The unit is accountable for facility maintenance and asset management in CHHHS and ensures all clinical and administrative buildings are compliant with statutory checks and inspections necessary to comply with Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Australian Standards. IAM provides 24-hour corrective maintenance and breakdown service for the facilities around the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service.

The outer western region of our service includes extremely remote communities. Cairns Hospital is the only major referral hospital in Far North Queensland and also provides care for people from Cape York and the Torres Strait.

About your opportunity:

  • Complete all work assignments including delivery of Planned Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance and Reactive Maintenance activities. These work assignments also include minor new works approved by the facility, equipment replacements and new installations as required. Works are to be completed based on priorities and schedules issued by Trade Coordinator or Maintenance Manager.
  • Work with apprentices, trade assistants, external trade contractors and other staff ensuring specifications and quality standards are met.
  • Liaise with and work with staff, other government agencies and private contractors to ensure work is undertaken with minimal disruption to clients and other staff
  • Monitor and report on the work of contractors and in-house trade staff in relation to specific tasks or assignments, specifications and standards.
