Your new role:

As a Lawyer (Health), you'll provide trusted legal advice across a diverse range of complex health and medico-legal matters while supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality healthcare throughout Metro South Health.  You will:

  • Provide timely, practical legal advice on health law, consent, privacy, clinical governance, human rights, statutory interpretation and regulatory matters.
  • Manage medical negligence and non-healthcare claims while supporting the Principal and Senior Lawyers across complex legal issues.
  • Build strong relationships with clinicians, executives and external agencies including the Coroner, Health Ombudsman, Queensland Police and Queensland Health.
  • Contribute to legal education, policy development, service improvement initiatives and mentoring of junior legal staff.

About you:

We're seeking an experienced legal professional who combines exceptional technical expertise with sound judgement, strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to delivering practical legal solutions. You are:

  • Admitted (or immediately eligible for admission) as a solicitor or barrister in Queensland, with significant post-admission experience, ideally within health, government or a large corporate legal environment.
  • An expert providing high-quality legal advice across complex health law, medico-legal, regulatory and legislative matters.
  • An exceptional stakeholder amanager, have written communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across multidisciplinary environments.
  • A proactive, organised professional who exercises sound judgement, manages competing priorities and contributes to continuous improvement, education and legal risk management.

About the Legal Team

The Metro South Health legal team pride themselves on delivering best practice legal advice and solutions to the organisation across a broad spectrum of areas, ranging from commercial and contract law issues to all aspects of health and medico-legal matters including coronial matters, human rights, anti-discrimination and administrative law. We work within a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

The legal team has a crucial role to play in:

  • Supporting the delivery of high quality, effective and efficient health services for our patients; and
  • Legal risk management for MSH
