Role details

The Child, Youth and Family Health at the Mackay Community Health Centre is seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse Lactation Consultant (Putting QLD Kids First) to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

This position directly supports the implementation of the Sustained Home Visiting (SHV) Program under the Putting Qld Kids First (PQKF) initiative. The Clinical Nurse Lactation Consultant (Putting Qld Kids First) provides advanced, evidence-based lactation care across the continuum of care, delivering a proactive, coordinated model of support from the antenatal period, through to early postnatal period and onto ongoing community-based care, for families identified through SHV screening. Work as part of the Sustained Home Visiting Program, targeting First Nations Families, young mothers and socially vulnerable families, and working to provide enhanced lactation support as a targeted intervention. The role is responsible for identify women early, providing targeted lactation support across antenatal, postnatal, outpatient, inpatient and community settings, and ensuring continuity of care to optimise breastfeeding outcomes, maternal confidence and infant/child health.

About the Team

The Child Youth and Family Health (CYFH) unit is a primary multi-disciplinary health service which is part of the Mackay Hospital and Health Service. The unit provides services for clients 0-18 years of age and their families. The building is located at Carlyle Community Health Centre in Carlyle Street, Mackay. The service extends offering face to face appointments from Mackay to Sarina, Walkerston and areas of the Pioneer Valley and telehealth appointments for the wider Mackay HHS community. The unit offers client focused screening, monitoring, guidance and education along with appropriate referrals and early interventions. The service offers supports to the child sector within the Carlyle community health facility as well as offering outreach clinics and home visiting. The youth sector is supported within the public high school environments.
