This role has a flexible primary work location of Townsville or Mt Isa.

TARGETED VACANCY
This is an Identified role; open only to peoples who identify as either or both an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and selected candidates will be required to provide documentary evidence as part of their application. This role has a flexible primary work location of Mount Isa or Townsville. Regardless of the primary work location, travel to remote, very remote and Discrete communities is a mandatory requirement of the role.
Sport and Racing delivers quality services by providing responsive and integrated support services for sport, recreation and racing opportunities for all Queenslanders.
The team drives grassroots sport participation across the State through programs and services while also delivering the capital planning, build and maintenance program for the Department of Sport, Racing and Olympic and Paralympic Games (the Department). Ultimately the Department plays a key role in enabling Queensland's Sport Strategy and delivering the Government's commitments and priorities. Sport and Racing supports and encourages participation and success in sport, active recreation and racing.
A critical requirement of the position is an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols and issues to effectively and sensitively consult, negotiate and communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Councils, Trustees, and communities.
This is your opportunity to:
• Engage and maintain local networks and identify partnership opportunities with key stakeholders (including but not limited to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
sporting clubs and communities, Local Councils, regional sport and recreation organisations, non-Government organisations and other government departments) and work in partnership with these stakeholders on key regional initiatives in the delivery of Government priorities and to identify business opportunities.
• Prepare Ministerial correspondence, briefs, reports and submissions relevant to Service Area project responsibilities.
• Contribute to the maintenance of Sport and Recreation database/s and record keeping systems.
• Provide advice (including through participation in project teams) to Senior Engagement Officers/Senior Indigenous Engagement Officers, the Manager and other staff, including but not limited to local community profiling, to contribute to the development of Departmental business including matters relating to Indigenous organisations, sport and recreation activities.
• Communicate effectively, sensitively and with influence with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to convey and guide acceptance of ideas and strategies and foster collaborative relationships.
• Contribute to researching, identification and analysis of the sport, recreation and physical activity needs of regional stakeholders including Indigenous communities and organisations to contribute to the development of strategies and recommendations to address local issues.
• Apply project management skills and methodology to prioritise work load in a high pressured environment.
• Work flexibly and across boundaries to meet changing business needs and priorities.
• Actively contribute to an innovative team that values continuous improvement and a collaborative culture focused on achievement of objectives within approved timeframes and budgets.
• Support and help maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that all policies and practices concerning Workplace Health and Safety are applied and are a part of day to day operations
• Contribute to a workplace culture based on values and behaviours, ensuring a positive work environment that is safe, healthy, diverse, respectful and inclusive.
