The Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) provides educational leadership to promote inclusive practices and improve learning outcomes for students with disability and diverse learning needs across the Woongarra Cluster, comprising Woongarra State School, Elliott Heads State School, Thabeban State School and Alloway State School.

Head of Special Education Services:

The role works collaboratively with principals, school leadership teams, inclusion teachers, classroom teachers, teacher aides, families and regional support services to build staff capability, strengthen inclusive practices and ensure students have equitable access to quality education.

Base school: Woongarra State School.

  • Regular travel between Woongarra State School, Elliott Heads State School, Thabeban State School and Alloway State School is required.
  • The role includes a teaching allocation alongside leadership responsibilities.
  • The position supports the strategic development of inclusive education across the cluster while maintaining direct engagement with students, staff and families.

The Head of Special Education Services:

  • Reports to the Principal, Woongarra State School.
  • Works collaboratively with the Principals of Elliott Heads State School, Thabeban State School and Alloway State School.
  • Provides professional leadership and supervision for inclusion staff and teacher aides based at Woongarra State School.
  • Works in partnership with inclusion staff across all cluster schools.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Expertise in inclusive education and differentiated teaching.
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian Curriculum, Disability Standards for Education and departmental inclusive education policies.
  • Proven ability to build staff capability through coaching and mentoring.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data and lead evidence-informed improvement.
  • Effective organisational skills with the capacity to balance teaching responsibilities and leadership across multiple school sites.
  • A commitment to the Department of Education's values of equity, excellence, integrity and respect.
