About the role

The Biomedical Engineer supports the Herston Biofabrication Institute (HBI) in delivering innovative personalised medical solutions through advanced engineering, point-of-care manufacturing and biofabrication technologies. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, the role contributes to research, clinical translation and service development activities that support the design, development and manufacture of personalised medical devices and clinical training models.

The successful candidate will provide technical support for research projects, assist with medical image processing, 3D modelling, additive manufacturing and quality assurance activities, and contribute to the development and scaling of HBI products and services. The role also supports laboratory operations, education initiatives, data management and collaboration with clinicians, researchers and industry partners to advance innovative healthcare solutions.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Support the development, implementation and evaluation of personalised medical devices and biofabrication solutions within clinical, research and point-of-care manufacturing environments.
  • Apply technical expertise in medical modelling, 3D printing, additive manufacturing, computer-aided design, medical image processing and device development to support research and clinical initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clinicians, researchers, students and external stakeholders to deliver innovative and patient-focused solutions.
  • Contribute to laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, quality assurance, procurement, regulatory compliance and workflow coordination activities.
  • Support education, training, research translation and continuous improvement initiatives while contributing to the growth and advancement of HBI products and services.
