Join a solution-focused Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) team and contribute to a positive culture reset across the National Fire Ant Eradication Program—building trust, strengthening capability and creating safer, more supportive ways of working.

We are looking for a practical, people-focused HSW Officer to support employees and leaders across complex operational, field-based and community-facing environments.

This is a generalist Health, Safety and Wellbeing role offering variety, purpose and the opportunity to make a visible difference. You will join an established team that listens to its people, identifies risks early and puts practical preventative solutions in place. This role requires regular travel across program locations. You will be based at our Berrinba office each Monday, with a minimum of two additional days per week spent at operational depots, including Burleigh Heads, Caboolture, Virginia, Wacol, Laidley and Mutdapilly, providing on-site support to regional teams. “What I love about HSW is helping people and seeing them happier, safer and working in better conditions. As a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer, you will:
• provide practical and timely HSW advice to employees, supervisors and leaders including the delivery of WHS inductions for up to 50 new staff, ensuring employees understand their safety responsibilities and program-specific requirements.
• support hazard identification, risk assessments and effective controls
• assist with incident reporting, reviews and follow-up actions
• contribute to physical safety and psychological health and wellbeing initiatives
• support workplace visits, consultation and assurance activities
• help employees and supervisors understand and apply HSW requirements
• develop toolbox talks, safety alerts, guidance materials and other practical resources
• use workforce feedback and incident information to identify emerging risks and priorities
• contribute to strengthening HSW capability and culture across the Program; and
• escalate complex or significant matters to senior HSW team members when required.

You will broaden your HSW experience across a large, diverse and operationally complex program while being supported to learn, contribute ideas and develop your confidence as an HSW Officer.

You will gain exposure to:
• field-based and geographically dispersed operations;
• incident response and emergency management;
• physical and psychological health and wellbeing; and
• operational risk, assurance and workforce capability building.

You must hold a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety. This is an essential requirement. You do not need to have all the answers from day one.

You will also have solid practical IT skills and enjoy using Microsoft Office to:
• Prepare professional toolbox talks and safety materials in Word;
• Create visually engaging PowerPoint presentations; and
• Produce Excel reports using filters, formulas, pivot tables, graphs and other data visuals.

The team uses this information to identify trends, emerging risks and priority areas and to guide future HSW communications and activities.
