The opportunity
As the Principal Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor will act as a strategic partner to leaders, managers and operational teams across a large, geographically dispersed and operationally complex program. You will provide expert advice, support organisational change and help the Program get ahead of potential issues through practical, preventative HSW strategies. Using data, operational insight and workforce feedback, you will identify emerging risks and opportunities for improvement. You will turn these insights into streamlined processes, targeted initiatives, practical guidance, safety communications and engaging toolbox talks.

Your influence will extend beyond providing advice. You will collaborate with stakeholders, coach others, lead by example and help employees and managers build the confidence and capability to achieve lasting improvements. We are looking for someone who combines strategic thinking with a genuine passion for HSW and helping people, someone who understands how work is genuinely performed and can see improvements through from concept to implementation.

What you will do
• contribute to the development and implementation of strategic and operational HSW systems, programs and initiatives
• provide expert, practical advice to leaders, managers and operational stakeholders
• review and streamline HSW systems, processes, procedures and reporting functions
• use incident data, workforce feedback and operational information to identify trends, emerging risks and priority areas
• translate evidence and insights into targeted initiatives, practical guidance, safety communications and engaging toolbox talks
• support organisational change and continuous improvement across the Program
• develop and implement HSW programs aligned with the department's safety management system
• coach, mentor and support others to strengthen their confidence and HSW capability
• promote a collaborative, inclusive and solution-focused approach
• lead by example in creating safer and more positive working conditions.

About You
You will hold a Diploma in Work Health and Safety and a current C Class Driver Licence.
Relevant tertiary qualifications, senior HSW experience and advanced.
Excel skills (including formulas, filters and pivot tables) will be highly regarded.

• has a genuine passion for helping people and improving working conditions
• has practical IT and reporting skills, including confidence using Word, PowerPoint and Excel to prepare professional reports, presentations and HSW materials.
