About the role

The Advanced Clinical Coder plays a key role in supporting the accuracy, quality and timeliness of inpatient morbidity data across Metro North Health. Working within Central HIMS Support, the role provides expert clinical coding services, undertakes auditing and data quality activities, and supports funding optimisation through accurate classification of clinical information in accordance with Australian Coding Standards and organisational requirements.

The successful candidate will mentor and support clinical coding staff, conduct clinical coding audits, liaise with clinicians regarding clinical documentation and coding queries, and contribute to education and quality improvement initiatives. The role also supports Activity Based Funding outcomes through the review and verification of clinical data and Diagnosis Related Group allocations.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Apply advanced expertise in ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS classifications to accurately code and verify inpatient episodes of care.
  • Conduct coding audits, data quality reviews and verification activities to ensure the accuracy, consistency and timeliness of morbidity data.
  • Provide advice, mentoring and education to clinical coders and support the development of coding capability across the service.
  • Liaise with clinicians and stakeholders to clarify clinical documentation and improve coding accuracy, documentation quality and funding outcomes.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, Activity Based Funding functions and reporting activities that support Health Information Management objectives.
