Your new role:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant – Patient Safety Officer provides expert clinical leadership in patient safety, incident management and quality improvement. Working with clinicians, leaders, consumers and multidisciplinary teams, you will analyse safety risks, lead reviews and translate insights into meaningful improvements that enhance patient outcomes and support compliance with national standards. This role is integral to fostering a just culture, promoting learning from incidents and delivering safe, effective and person-centred care.

About you:

You are an experienced senior nurse with strong clinical governance expertise and a passion for improving patient safety, quality outcomes and healthcare systems through evidence-based practice and collaborative leadership. You will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in clinical incident management, investigations, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), HEAPS reviews and patient safety improvement initiatives.
  • Advanced ability to analyse clinical data, identify trends and translate insights into practical strategies that improve care outcomes.
  • Strong clinical leadership skills with the ability to influence multidisciplinary teams and drive a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability to build effective partnerships with executives, clinicians, consumers and stakeholders to achieve clinical governance objectives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality, safety and accreditation frameworks, including the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.

About the Clinical Governance Unit

The Clinical Governance Unit at Bayside Health Service plays a key role in strengthening patient safety, quality improvement and clinical governance systems to support the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based care. The team provides expertise in clinical incident management, quality improvement, consumer engagement, mortality reviews, accreditation, risk management and performance reporting to improve outcomes for patients and the community.
