What you'll do

As the Senior Data Collection Officer, you will lead and coordinate data collection programs, managing workloads, allocating resources, and providing technical leadership to ensure the integrity, quality, and effectiveness of health information systems across Queensland Health. You will oversee the evaluation of data sources, collection methods, and processing practices, while developing and implementing quality assurance procedures to identify and resolve discrepancies. The role involves undertaking special projects, particularly in quality control, and providing expert advice to senior management on terminology, data definitions, data collection processes, and information systems. You will build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, users, government agencies, and professional bodies, and represent Queensland Health on state and interdepartmental committees. In addition, you will support staff development through coaching, performance management, training, and recruitment activities, while fostering ethical decision-making and leading teams to deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with organisational goals.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • Demonstrated high level of skill in managing statistical collections involving provision of data to effectively and efficiently meet user and provider needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and develop professional and clerical staff at all levels in line with contemporary human resource management practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and analyse problems, develop and implement remedial strategies and exercise initiative and responsibility in the collection of data.
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills in communication, consultation, and negotiation particularly with respect to highly sensitive and confidential data.
  • Demonstrated high level of ability in the preparation and critical examination of papers, reports and publications.
  • Supervise and manage staff in line with quality human resource management practices with particular reference to employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
