Principal Project Officer


Far North Queensland Region; Regional Service Delivery; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships; Cairns - Flexible

Join the Far North Queensland Regional Office and play a leadership role in delivering meaningful outcomes for First Nations communities. As part of the Regional Implementation team, you will lead complex projects and programs that drive economic development, job creation, skills development, and sustainable social, cultural and economic outcomes.

As a key regional contact and part of the department's regional front door, you will build strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, local government, industry, service providers and government agencies to support community-led solutions. Working in a dynamic and collaborative environment, you will coordinate stakeholders and resources, manage competing priorities, and provide strategic leadership to deliver innovative outcomes in complex settings.

Your contribution and key responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of complex projects and initiatives that support departmental, regional, and whole-of-government priorities.
  • Act as a key regional contact, building and sustaining trusted partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to drive collaborative outcomes.
  • Provide leadership in coordinating stakeholder engagement activities, forums, and partnership mechanisms to support the delivery of programs, projects, and regional priorities.
  • Monitor emerging regional issues, trends, and opportunities, and provide strategic analysis and advice to inform decision-making and service delivery across agencies.
  • Prepare high-quality briefs, reports, correspondence, and submissions to support the delivery of regional initiatives and whole-of-government outcomes, providing evidence-based strategic advice.
  • Contribute to and provide leadership in cross-agency initiatives and coordinated responses that address regional opportunities and challenges, delivering sustainable, community-led solutions.
  • Support the delivery of initiatives that build skills, create jobs, and grow enterprises for First Nations communities.
  • Support the delivery of regional and local government events.
  • Supervise and support other team members as required.
  • Work collaboratively and flexibly as part of a high-performing team, fostering a respectful, safe, and inclusive workplace.

      These roles offer flexibility across the Far North Queensland locations of Cairns, Cooktown, Weipa, and Thursday Island.
